BOULAY - Statement
While
aiming to promote the awareness of a serious ecological problem, I have
been using society's non biodegradable plastic cast-offs for over four
decades now.
I
wash and store them by color. When a color imposes itself, I go to work
listening to what it has to tell me, and show you what it said. Through
descriptive scenarios of such themes as unity, animal rights, acid rain,
abortion, threat of nuclear devastation, psychology, history, etc.
I
use acrylic boxes to display these interpretations which can also be installations.
I do not paint the objects as I prefer playing with the natural hues and
gradations of a colour and each one suggests a world of it's own.
I
do not use glue; it is a greater challenge for me to chance upon meaningful
juxtapositions of the objects, as though they were predestined
to interlock.
(sometimes using plastic covered wire to permanently secure the objects).

Everything
that attracts the eye, affects the senses in some way: Depending on it's
appearance, color, shape or use. To look at an object from all it's angles
is to study form.
Through
the discovery of the objects, the choice of colors, the manipulations of
these objects, my sculptures symbolically illustrate such themes as: Ecology,
Psychology, Sociology, even History.
In
all, a pedagogical objective: To make the general public aware of the magic
in forms and colors of discarded objects that are a part of our lives.
